The only appointed feast that begins on a new moon, and the one the return is most often timed to.
Yom Teruah — “the day of the sounding” — falls on 1 Tishrei, the first day of the seventh month. Leviticus 23:23–25; Numbers 29:1.
It is the only appointed feast that begins on a new moon. In the old reckoning a month began only when the first crescent was sighted and confirmed by two witnesses before the court, so the date could not be fixed in advance. That is why it is observed across two days to this day.
In 2026 it begins at sunset on SEPTEMBER 11 and ends at nightfall on SEPTEMBER 13, opening year 5787. The Days of Awe follow; Yom Kippur falls SEPTEMBER 21. The service traditionally carries one hundred shofar blasts.
The September new moon and 1 Tishrei coincide by construction — the Hebrew calendar is lunisolar. The live moon module above is computing the same new moon.
A widely taught reading holds that “of that day and hour knoweth no man” (Matthew 24:36) is a Hebrew idiom for this feast — the day no one could know in advance, because it waited on the crescent.
On that reading the trumpet passages of the resurrection point to a return timed to Yom Teruah: 1 Corinthians 15:52, “at the last trump”; 1 Thessalonians 4:16, “with the trump of God”; Revelation 11:15, “the seventh angel sounded.”
It circulates at volume every September.
There is no historical evidence the feast was ever called “the feast no one knows the day or hour of.” The idiom is not attested in the rabbinic sources it is credited to.
This is contested from inside the same camp: pre-tribulation teachers themselves have called the idiom a recent invention with no ancient support. That attribution matters — it is a far stronger objection than an outside one.
Both readings are recorded. Neither is resolved here. The feast arrives on schedule either way.
